Gisele Bündchen made quite the catwalk comeback during the Opening Ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Friday.

The Brazilian supermodel wowed as she walked across the “runway” to classic tune “The Girl from Ipanema” performed by Daniel Jobim as part of the ceremony.

Her dress – a gold sequined column by Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchcovitch – was a four-month-long process to create, according to Vogue.com.

The designer described the outfit to the publication, saying: “It’s a long dress, with a long train, pierced at the front, with pleats at the waist.”

Herchcovitch added: “It has long sleeves, a deep V-neck, and a thigh-high slit, leaving the legs fully exposed. The fabric is a mesh, covered with bright golden sequins, double-sided, embroidered horizontally.”

The designer also noted that he “supposed” the reason he was chosen was because Bündchen wanted a Brazilian designer, and that it was a “special reunion” between the two of them, who have not seen each other in a long time.

The pair met four times in the last few months to finish the end result, after sketches were sent to Bündchen and then adjustments made.

“The fabric has been specially developed for the occasion with some peculiarities, such as the fluidity in which the sequined embroidery would flow horizontally around her body,” Herchcovitch explains to Vogue.com.

The Brazilian designer also posted a backstage photo of Bündchen looking stunning in the dress, waiting to go onstage.

Bündchen and Herchcovitch have worked together several times before, including when she modeled for the designer in 1996 and 1997 at São Paulo Fashion Week.
